About Carrie

A native of Oklahoma and long time resident of Bushwick, Brooklyn, Carrie’s artistic practice hovers at the intersection of art and architecture.

Carrie Bobo's artistic practice most recently has been located within the artist collective, Konstepidemin, in Göteborg, Sweden and is currently in Bushwick, Brooklyn. She holds a Bachelor’s in Architecture and a Master of Fine Arts.

Her practice centers on an exploration of home through writing and artistic production: home as place, home as idea, and home as identity. Home as a place, the wellspring from which we learn to see our position in society; Home as an idea, the sense of well-being, belonging, and acceptance that we perennially seek; Home as identity, the home of our national and cultural identification.

While representational, Carrie’s paintings live within a tradition of abstract expressionism and color theory - Albers, Diebenkorn, Thiebaud, Frankenthaler, De Kooning . . . an often serial play of transparency, texture, and color - a devotion to the intrinsic qualities of oil paint.

——-

Having lost the ability to preserve even the tiniest piece of untainted nature; we must accept our control over the form nature takes.

Having built a society on the concept of meritocracy as a foil for deep structural inequities and exclusion; we must accept the need for compensation.

We greet these realities with shame and fear at the consequences of our actions yet continue to fail to change.

Connecting art and architecture, Carrie Bobo’s painting, writing, film, and textile installations explore how we make our home in this world.
